Factory fabrication calendars

The 4—4—5 calendar is a method of managing accounting periods, and is a common calendar structure for some industries such as retail and manufacturing. The 4—4—5 calendar divides a year into four quarters of 13 weeks grouped into two 4-week "months" and one 5-week "month". The grouping of 13 weeks may also be set up as 5—4—4 weeks or 4—5—4. It could still compare a period to the same period in the prior year, or use week by week data comparisons. Its major advantage over a regular calendar is that the end date of the period is always the same day of the week, which is useful for shift or manufacturing planning as every period is the same length.

For example, if you select , four weeks are allocated to the first month of the quarter, five weeks are allocated to the second month of the quarter, and four weeks are allocated to the third month of the quarter. Because a manufacturing calendar can contain only whole weeks, your business calendar may start one or two days earlier each year and eventually rotate through an entire year.

A calender is a series of hard pressure rollers used to finish or smooth a sheet of material such as paper , textiles , or plastics. Calender rolls are also used to form some types of plastic films and to apply coatings. In eighteenth century China, workers called "calenderers" in the silk and cotton cloth trades, used heavy rollers to press and finish cloth. In , Edwin M. Chaffee, of the Roxbury India Rubber Company, patented a four-roll calender to make rubber sheet. With the expansion of the rubber industry the design of calenders grew as well, so when PVC was introduced the machinery was already capable of processing it into film.
